yoga class levels

level 1

For students new to yoga and those who prefer an emphasis on accessible poses with alignment fundamentals. Each 8-13 week long yoga term features thematic content. Examples include: foot and hip alignment in standing poses, creating space in the hips & groins, balancing strength around the shoulder girdle, supports and alternatives for half moon pose, etc. Classes are 90 minutes long.

level 2

For students with prior yoga experience who prefer to cultivate their felt-sense understanding of alignment and integration. Inner body yoga cues provide the thematic content for the 8-13 week yoga terms (see examples). Students should arrive with at least 1 year of consistent, recent, yoga class attendance, and an understanding of basic alignment fundamentals. They should be able to perform all basic standing postures for 30-90 seconds, a 2 minute downward dog, and a 1 minute plank pose. Headstand and shoulderstand are sometimes included in class, with alternatives for those who prefer to pass on them, and with preparatory poses for those working up to them. Classes are 90 minutes long.

level 2-3

For long-practicing students who prefer more sophisticated felt-sense instruction and posture sequencing. Headstand and shoulderstand are practiced every class (with alternatives for those who need them). Students should arrive with 2+ years of recent and consistent intermediate yoga class attendance, some modicum of home practice outside of class, and familiarity practicing headstand and shoulderstand. Classes are 120 minutes long.
